![]() ![]() ![]() I know most people glorify HOMM3 as the height of the series, but I honestly feel like the gameplay/mechanical refinement of the series reached its peak at HOMM5. Heroes of Might and Magic V is a bit dated by todays standards, but you can still get it to run on modern hardware without much fuss. Masters of the Broken World would be my recommendation. It has its own quirky sense of humor, but is a quite solid series that tends to fly under the radar. Warlock 2 even has a world-hopping system that might be a good segue to the theme of travelling to other worlds in Age of Wonders 4.Įador series is pretty good, overall. Warlock 1/2 are fantasy 4x games that might come pretty close to scratching a similar itch to the Age of Wonders style. The Core system for units is quite novel and innovative for the entire genre as well. Its take on rogue-like dungeons is a path I sincerely wish AoW would have gone down, but I understand why they slimmed down into the 'shiny arenas' we have instead. MoM is basically the game that started the whole genre.ĭeity Empires isn't the prettiest game, but it is a wonderful indie game with a lot of charm and mechanical depth/innovation for the genre. AoW is kind of in-between these two, and Planetfall leans more toward civ-like.Master of Magic recently had a remastered version if you don't want to try to get the original working on modern hardware. And sooner or later we will have Conquest of Elysium 5 (hopefully, this year), if you are more into "classic" TBS. ![]() Oh, and if you are into civ-likes (so-called "4x"), you may want to check Humankind (will come out in EA at April, no need to pre-purchase it just now, just take a look at it). But I just don't believe they can possibly fix multiplayer-related issues bugging their games more than 6 years, And TBS without working multiplayer has very limited lifetime. To be absolutely honest, TBS devs do whatever they like to their playerbases. There are\were multiple issues with it, and this is not slightest acceptable after my experience with AoW3. I won't be minding to give it a proper run, but netplay were been ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up since the very release. I don't know if you are OK with a full-price purchase after that.Ĭan't say too much about the game itself. And it was on -67% for complete pack intermittently since September on multiple platforms. The base game were given away multiple times on EGS and GoG. ![]()
